What is the Circular Economy and how do we make it a reality for NZ ?

The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report came out recently, and things are not looking good. We are on track to reach 1.5C warming between 2030 and 2052 if temperatures continues to increase at the current rate, and 3C by the end of the century. Once we hit 2C warming, the world will be a profoundly different place.

The Sustainable Business Network is all about empowering business so people and nature prosper. Over the last 15 years, hundreds of organisations from all over New Zealand have come together to be part of this Network.

Awareness and interest in this issue has grown, and the Climate Change & Business Conference held in October had over 300 attendees, the largest turnout yet. Businesses came together to share some of the bold moves they are making within their sectors. One of those was about changes needed to move NZ to a Circular Economy, and they discussed what life might be like if we succeed.

James Griffin leads the Circular Economy Accelerator. He said that NZ is in a unique position to help lead the transformation to a circular economy, and although it would involve multiple key people and organisations, by tackling NZ's key economic and environmental challenges in this way and by acting now, we could pave the way for an abundant, healthy future. The detail of this challenge is documented in this presentation. For other presentations from the Conference click here.
